Top 3 Seminyak Hotels, Bali

Seminyak has long been one of my favourite places to stay in Bali — not only because it is close to beautiful seaside restaurants, beach clubs and shopping, but it is also near to the back streets for where I need to go sourcing for my store Coastal Vintage. It is also close to some of the island’s best interiors and design stores.

Over the years I’ve stayed in many hotels, but these three continue to stand out for very different reasons.

As a business traveler, I want to be comfortable with a little bit of luxury, and these three mid-range priced hotels are perfect to stay after I have been out sourcing all day.

Hotel Number 1 - Kanvaz Village Resort

Kanvaz Village Resort was an accidental find. The patisserie at the front of the hotel is what originally captured my attention. The hotel has a relaxed boutique feel and is effortlessly stylish with beautiful quality decor and furnishings showcasing a mix of Balinese and contemporary style.

The centre pool is the wow factor with towering coconut palms with all the rooms overlooking the pool. It feels luxurious without being overdone.

The buffet breakfast is a standout with a vast range of food choices and all you can eat. The other major feature is the beautiful air-conditioned tropical conservatory with it’s beautiful palms and high ceilings. It is where they serve their delicious baked goods from the in-house patisserie.

Despite the close proximity to the road, when you wander inside it has a feeling of calm and is peaceful.

Pros - the staff are fabulous and always remember you, and the breakfast is the best of all the hotels I have stayed in Bali.

Cons - the tinted mirrors and lighting in the bathroom are a little dark and the pool only captures the sun at certain times of the day.

Number 2 - The Colony Hotel

The Colony is one of those timeless hotels that never loses its charm. Located right in the centre of Seminyak near the beach, it’s Colonial architecture is a stand-out. It is a sophisticated boutique hotel and has been a favourite of mine for almost a decade. It is within walking distance for a morning or evening walk on the beach, and also very close to fabulous cafes, restaurants and fashion stores.

There are three sections to the Colony. The Wing, The Club and the Residence, and all rooms are decorated with Colonial style furniture and Indonesian artefacts.

For a business traveler, the Wing is perfect with rooms all facing the Wing’s centre pool framed by sweet smelling frangipani’s and lofty palm trees that bring that resort feel.

The Club is separate from the Wing and also has it own pool. It has a more masculine Colonial style and includes benefits such as a personalised butler service, sunset drinks and exclusive pool and lounge facilities.

The Residence is located above the lobby overlooking the street and is private and separate from the Wing & the Club.

Pros - the Wing’s glorious pool captures the sun until late afternoon. Kim Soo, one of my favourite cafes and homewares stores is right next door and you will find me there daily for breakfast and a good cappuccino, and hanging out with my buddy Franco, the manager.

Cons - Sadly, the noise from Mexicola nightclub can sometimes be heard depending on which room you are in. Bring earplugs!

Number 3 - Kleo by Hyatt

Kleo Hotel by Hyatt is the new kid in town and it is fun. I loved that it brings a funky retro-inspired energy with its colourful interiors, playful styling and creative boutique atmosphere.

It is lovely to see the vintage-inspired design mixed with modern comfort. It features bold pops of colour, simply styled that is not overdone and feels both vibrant and welcoming.

It also has an beautiful Italian Restaurant ‘Zia Tina’, specialising in southern Italian cuisine. It is divine. Breakfast is served here too.

Pros - fresh and newly renovated hotel. As Kleo is located right next to the 5-Star Alila Resort, another hotel under the Hyatt brand, guests can enjoy highly convenient access to Alila, including the beachfront with sunset views, infinity pools, and dining options. While staying there recently, I also enjoyed 15% off my sunset cocktails.

Cons - can be a little noisy on street side.
